Abbadia San Salvatore
Abbadia San Salvatore rises in the Siena area of Mount Amiata and its name derives dall'Abbazia Benedictine, founded in 743 by King Lombard Rachis, which today remains only the church and the crypt. In addition to ancient medieval village, noteworthy characteristic is also the Palazzo del Podesta, built in the fifteenth century and the church of Santa Croce. Currently the country is one of the most important tourist centers of Mount Amiata and the same Tuscany, recalls the time spent in production of mercury coming from its mineral base that extracted in a mine nearby. Recently, the mercury now no longer produced by over fifty years, remains a memory preserved in a museum.
